Primary and secondary structure codes

Barns and pools are examples of structures on a property. We assign each structure on a property a specific code that corresponds to the type of structure it is. Below are the codes for each structure type.

There is a separate code system to classify property types, such as residential and commercial property types.

Structure codes and property codes

"Property codes" describe the whole property. These codes are listed on the property codes page. For example:

301 Single family detached (not on water).
438 Neighbourhood shopping centre with offices above.

"Structure codes" apply to the specific house, office building, garage, etc. on the property. The main building is designated the "primary" structure, and other structures on the property are "secondary".

Examples of the way we use structure codes:

On a residential property, the primary structure is usually the home, while secondary structures could include a garage or an in-ground pool.
On an industrial property, the primary structure is usually the main building, and a secondary structure might be the parking garage or a storage facility.
