MPAC is responsible for providing municipalities with a Preliminary List of Electors to support municipal and school board elections in Ontario.

Municipalities make additions and corrections to the Preliminary List of Electors to create their final Voters’ List for municipal elections, as well as population reporting for various municipal and school board planning purposes.

We base the Preliminary List of Electors primarily on information from our property assessment database, which contains the names of property owners, and to the extent possible, the names of tenants and other occupants.

To ensure the information in our database is as up-to-date as possible, we make use of all data sources available to us. This includes regular updates from the National Register of Electors, Elections Ontario, the Ministry of Government Services for deceased persons, on-going updates of data from our property assessment system, and information collected through voterlookup.ca.

MPAC created voterlookup.ca to provide electors with an easy way to confirm and update their information for municipal and school board elections, year-round.

Through voterlookup.ca, Ontario electors can take an active role in maintaining accurate and up-to-date electoral information to be reflected on MPAC’s Preliminary List of Electors for the 2022 municipal and school board elections.

Eligible electors can update their information, add a name to an address, or change their school support.

The future of enumeration

In fall 2019, the Ontario Government announced changes to create a single register of electors for municipal and provincial elections that will be managed by Elections Ontario following the 2022 municipal election.

MPAC is working to implement legislated changes that will transfer responsibility for enumeration products to Elections Ontario as of January 1, 2024.

MPAC will continue its current role until after the next municipal elections in 2022 and will also provide the preliminary list of electors for any by-elections in 2023.
